Office Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM 

Volunteer Status: Accepting volunteers on weekdays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM for childcare assistance, meal preparation, and educational support.

Description:

Hale Maluhia, which translates to “House of Peace,” has been a safe haven for women and children experiencing homelessness and domestic abuse since 2012. Located in Hilo, our shelter provides 30 beds and offers a variety of essential services, including trauma counseling, educational support, and family reunification programs. In addition to providing a safe place to stay, we offer daycare, after-school tutoring, and job placement services for mothers seeking to rebuild their lives. At Hale Maluhia, we are committed to empowering women and their children, helping them regain their independence and thrive in a supportive environment.

Specific Donations Needed:

High Priority: 

  • Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, formula) 
  • Children’s clothing and shoes 
  • Women’s hygiene products 

Medium Priority: 

  • Educational materials (books, school supplies) 
  • Toys and games for the children’s play area 
  • Cribs and bedding 

Low Priority: 

Gift cards for grocery stores or clothing stores

Art supplies for children’s therapy sessions
